Description
Summary

BIOR Fish Resources Research Department during the Baltic International Trawl Surveys (BITS) collects data from bottom trawl fish surveys. Surveys are coordinated by ICES WGBIFS. The primary purpose of the survey is to produce abundance estimates and indices of recruitment for cod and flounder in the Eastern Baltic (Sub-divisions 25-32) that are necessary for tuning VPA and prediction of the recruitment. Other species are also intensively investigated to support ecosystem analyses. For Latvia, the main investigation area is the Eastern Baltic Sea (ICES subdivisions 26 and 28.2). The database includes haul metadata, catches by species in kilograms and numbers, fish biology data, species length-based information, species age-based information, from 2018 litter data also. The database contains data from 1976 to 2021. The database is updated with new data every year. The same data from 1991 are included in the international trawl surveys database DATRAS. DATRAS is an online database of demersal trawl surveys with access to standard data products. The same data partly are included in the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment (BIOR) local database BIODATA.
