Description
Summary

Since the mid 1950s, a number of ship routes crossing the North Sea from Norway (Bergen, Stavanger and Oslo) to harbours in UK, Holland and Germany have been supplied with temperature recorders attached to the cooling water intake of the engine room. In addition, water samples for salinity were taken, and temperature manually recorded, at fixed positions along the routes. During the last period of the program, digital logs were used, and in a short period also GPS-logs. Most historical data exist in paper journals only. Electronic data exist for the latest years of the observation series.
