Description
Summary

In 1992-1995 research was carried out by DAE IEP and, on this basis, a project on the system of protection and restoration of the Gulf of Gdansk has been established. The essence of this project was to develop appropriate biotechnical measures which help to restore and preserve the biological resources of the Gulf of Gdansk. Comprehensive monitoring of the state of the biocenosis and the environment of the Gulf of Gdansk was done in June-July 1992. Samples of phytobenthos, macrozoobenthos, bacterial microflora, chlorophyll-a, water temperature, salinity, oxygen, pH, water transparency, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds in water and sediments, redox potential in sediments and trace metals in sediments from some 80 sampling stations (from 1m to 60m depth) along 12 profiles were taken. The sanitary state of the coastal waters, pathological changes in fish and a modelling of the current system in the Gulf were investigated in cooperation with other institutes. Once again, monitoring at 6 sampling profiles (from 1m to 20m depth) took place in September 1994 and June-July 1995. Analyses of the phytoplankton and selected zooplankton groups were included in this research. Some environmental experiments on using biotechnical measures for restoration were also performed in April-September 1994 and 1995. The data set contains the results of observations from over 180 sampling sites (1992-94; samples from 1995 are being determined). It contains abundance and biomass of the organisms recalculated for 1 m**3 in the case of pelagic parameters and for 1 m**2 of the bottom in the case of benthic parameters. The physico-chemical data are expressed in standard units. Recommended national and international methods were used during the research work. The results of experiments on reintroduction of the bottom vegetation, as well as results of studies on communities of biofiltrators on artificial substrata together with physico-chemical data and photographic documentation, are also available at DAE IEP.
