In 1986-87 bacteriological examinations of sea-water were carried out in the coastal zone in order to assess the sanitary state of the bathing places. 92 watering places along the whole Polish coast, 2 watering places in the Vistula Lagoon and the docks in Gdansk and Gdynia were monitored. Samples were taken several times a year within each bathing place at several sampling sites. On average, about 30 samplings on each site were done. The physico-chemical water analyses were carried out weekly at 18 sampling stations situated in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Gdansk and along the Hel Peninsula. The whole data set consists of almost 5300 results of bacteriological analyses (coli index), physico-chemical analyses in the form of minimum and maximum values, monthly mean, mean seasonal and mean annual values of the studied parameters. They are stored in tabular and graphic form (typescript). The investigations for DAE were carried out by the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia, which for many years has specialized in water bacteriological examinations.
