Description
Summary

The data are stored on magnetic media (HDD) within a non-standard PC-based database. This means that the set of records is not compatible with any other standard database, for instance dBase, Paradox etc. Data can only be retrieved or read using the original database. It is not possible to determine the number of records within the database, although an approximation can be made assuming that, on average, 12 cruises were carried out within the Polish economic zone and measurements were carried out at 25 stations at 5 levels during each year. From this we can assume that about 1,600 records, consisting of at least temperature and salinity observations, result from one year's observations. There are about 45,000 records for the period 1978-2003. The database is regularly updated and quality controlled in accordance with IOC, ICES and HELCOM guidelines. This includes both formal control and scientific control. The station name forms the key reference to the data records. Selections can be made from the database by time period, parameter or range of parameter values. Data collected within the COMBINE project are sent to HELCOM data centres maintained by ICES Data Centre.
