Description
Summary

The data collection was coordinated by the Polish Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection in 1975-1981, within the IAEA project in 1981-1984 and within HELCOM BMP in 1985-1997. In 1998-2013 data has been collected in the frame of the Polish MORS programme as a part of the HELCOM COMBINE program under supervision of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmet Protection (CIEP). Since 2014 data are collected in the frame of the Polish MSFD monitoring programme in the frame of the contract with CIEP. The data set includes the values of the concentrations of radionuclides in the surface layer and near bottom layer of the sea and Vistula river water, as well as atmospheric fall-out. Samples were taken once a year at 10-20 stations within the Polish exclusive zone of the Baltic Sea and, on one occasion, whilst the ship was on passage to the Arctic. Activity concentrations of the samples were determined by radiochemical methods and spectroscopy. Raw data are stored as a handwritten archive consisting of separate tabulated reports of all the data for each cruise and as Excel files on a PC. Every year the data are reported to the HELCOM data bank. Quality control of the data has been coordinated by the Marine Environment Laboratory of IAEA Monaco.
