Description | |
Summary | In the past the Puck Bay was a fishery centre - a place where valuable fish species were caught and supplied to the local market. Now the bay is the synonym for anthropogenic devastation. This phenomenon concerns the fish resources as well. First of all, commercial fish have become extinct. At the same time, other species have adjusted to the conditions and expanded into the relieved ecological niches (both in spatial and quantitative terms). The recently spreading stickleback population has been used as an example to aid hazard assessment for the early stages of different fish species. The efficiency of brown shrimp (Crangon crangon) catches has been estimated. The distribution of ichthyofauna in the 5-20m coastal zone of the Baltic Sea has been determined. The estimation of the by-catch amount with several fish species was made. The impact of the prawn net on the ichthyofauna structure, particularly on schools of young gobies and flat fish, was studied. |
