Description
Summary

The aim of this project was the digital archiving of documented species, putting them in order and completing them by the diagnostic description. Thus prepared material is the basis of the data base. This allows to access information for people who are interested in micro- and malacofauna and to use them in different applications (eg. GIS). Besides, the data base is also joint with the specimen collections (archiving of fauna) destined for museums, according to their established catalogue registry. As a final step database in MS Visual FoxPro format was created. Access to the data base is done by prepared application specially equipped in browsing, searching and sorting data base. Distribution of data base is done with help of CD-ROM included data base and maintaining programme. Because of an 'open' character of data base the new results of researching works on the southern Baltic area, will be systematically complexting. Fauna data base is prepared to cooperation with already existing in Branch of Marine Geology PIG geological Neptun data base. Such cooperation will allow getting additional information (lithology, petrography and al.) from samples branch the signed and presented species of Quaternary fauna come from.
