The data set comprises measurements (depth, temperature, conductivity, salinity) on several stations in the following regions: - The main area comprising: the Arctic Seas (the Greenland, Iceland and Norwegian Seas) between latitudes 70° N - 77° N, longitudes 12° E - 17° E and the Arctic Front delimited by longitudes 2° 41'W - 3° 05'E and latitudes 70° 54'N - 72° 32'N. - Spitsbergen's fjords (since 1989-1995). - The profile between latitudes 74° 30'N - 77° N and longitudes 1° E - 15° E (1988, 1989, 1991). - The profile along longitude 0° E and latitudes 65° N - 74° N (1988, 1989, 1991). - The profile on the Norwegian Sea between latitudes 63° N - 69° N and longitudes 3° 24'45W - 13° 40'E (1988, 1989). - The profile between Faroe and Shetland Islands (1988, 1989, 1991).

Description
Summary

The investigation of the Arctic Seas started as part of the international Greenland Sea Project (GSP) and is still continued by the Institute of Oceanology. The main area of exploration is situated in the confluence zone of the Atlantic waters (carried by the Norwegian, Atlantic and North-Spitsbergen currents) and Barents Sea waters. The hydrological data collected during every expedition of RV 'Oceania' provide valuable scientific material which allows the study of the interannual variability of hydrological conditions in the main area of heat and salt supply for the Greenland Sea and the estimation of their influence on the process of the formation of intermediate water masses in the Greenland Sea basin. Investigation of the Arctic Front carried out since the year 1993 is the original project of the institute. The general goal is to recognise the structure of the Arctic Front, especially the transfrontal water exchange. The main goal is to determine the role of the mesoscale structures (like gyres and meanders) in the Atlantic water transfer into the Arctic domain (Greenland Sea). The data set includes: 1987 - 107 stations on the Arctic Seas; 1988 - the profile on the Norwegian Sea - 7 stations, - the profile along longitude 0° E - 12 stations, - the main area - 81 stations, - the profile between the Faroe and Shetland Islands - 16 stations; 1989 - the profile on the Norwegian Sea - 7 stations, - the main area - 83 stations, - the profile along 0° E - 13 stations, - the profile between the Faroe and Shetland Islands - 15 stations, - in Spitsbergen's fjords - 17 stations; 1991 - the main area - 44 stations, - the profile along longitude 0° E - 32 stations, - the Faroe and Shetland Islands - 15 stations, - in Spitsbergen's fjords - 13 stations; 1992 - the main area (the Arctic Seas) - 46 stations, - in Spitsbergen's fjords - 32 stations; 1993 - the Arctic Seas, - 63 stations, - the Arctic Front - 59 stations, - in Spitsbergen's fjords - 3 stations; 1994 - the Arctic Seas - 67 stations, - the Arctic Front - 59 stations, - in Spitsbergen's fjords- 27 stations; 1995 - the Arctic Seas - 93 stations, - the Arctic Front - 97 stations, - in Spitsbergen's fjords - 37 stations.
