Optical backscatter; Light absorption in the water column; Transmittance and attenuance of the water column

The data set comprises the spectra of light attenuation coefficient in the water from the Pomeranian Bay and from the mouth of Swina River; also the refractive index for the second data collection period. Water was sampled from the superficial layer of the Pomeranian Bay at the shore and from the mouth of the Swina River, transported to the laboratory and measured immediately. 1. Series contain light attenuation coefficient for water sampled in each of former stations on the following days in 1988: 10, 18, 22 January, 09 February, 22, 26 March, 12, 19, 26 April, 23, 30 May, 06, 13, 20, 27 June. This part of the investigations was carried out under the research programme CPBP 03.10, coordinated by the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. 2. Series contain light attenuation coefficient for water and filtered water (Sartorius filter 0.2 mkm) and refractive index for water. Water was sampled at each of 8 later stations on the following days in 1993: 07, 21 July, 04, 19, 31 August, 16, 29 September, 13 October, 02, 14, 28 November, 12 December and also on 02 January 1994. Data are in the possession of Barbara Pawlak and Wieslaw Stochmal in the Sea Physics Department, University of Szczecin.
