National Monitoring Programme is consisted of three complementary parts: 1. National Monitoring Programme within the framework of the Programme for the Assessment and Control of Pollution in the Mediterranean Region (MED POL) - Phase III. 2. Monitoring of the quality of coastal waters 3. Monitoring of the quality of the water for living and growing of marine molluscs Within the first part it is proposed to establish a comprehensive national programme for the monitoring of the coastal ecosystem of Slovenia. While preparing this programme (first signed in 1999 and revised in 2002 and 2004), the natural characteristics of the marine environment were taken into account (enclosed sea, sensitive area), total inputs from land based sources and that the Slovenian coastal area is an ecological unit of the Gulf of Trieste. The execution of the National Monitoring Programme is in the context, and in accordance with, the MED-POL PHASE III Programme. The second and the third programmes are two sub programmes financed by the Environmental Agency of the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia.
