Description
Summary

The cruise started with a pilot study over a grid of 12 stations (45x25 km) on 15-16 July. On 17-26 July an intensive study was carried out. It consisted of nine night-time mesoscale towed CTD/fluorometer and flow-through surveys and 10 daytime intensive biological-chemical samplings at an anchor station. During the mesoscale surveys, salinity, temperature and fluorescence were measured and samples for nutrient and phytoplankton analyses were taken from the depth of ca. 5 m with a flow-through system. At the anchor stations measurements/samplings of turbulence, CTD, fluorescence, nutrients, phytoplankton, nitrogen fixation and primary production were made. Special attention was paid on the phytoplankton spatial and temporal variability under a complex hydrodynamical influence (downwelling, anticyclonic eddy, jet). On 26 July a cross front section of 8 stations (CTD and turbulence) was performed.
