The aim of the researches of petroleum hydrocarbons is to evaluate the contamination of the Curonian Lagoon water and bottom sediments with oil and it's products which are one of the most widely spread and dangerous contaminants in the marine environment. In accordance with the national Curonian Lagoon monitoring programme complex surveys have been fulfilled with cutter 'Gintaras' every month (water sampling) and season (sediment sampling). During the period 1978-1993 investigations were carried out in the whole Curonian Lagoon (data set limits: 54 54 - 55 44N; 20 37 - 21 17E). Since 1994 the researches have been carried out in north and central parts of the Lagoon which belongs to the Lithuania. Samples are taken from surface and bottom layers. The data are fully quality controlled. Systematic certification of laboratories, participation in an international intercalibrations, internal control, introduced managing system for researches' quality, use of high quality reagents determine quality of data. All data is stored in archive (written form) and is saved on hard disk.
