Description | |
Summary | The increase of eutrophication in the Curonian Lagoon has caused the abundant macrophyte vegetation all over around this water body. This problem was the reason for starting the macrophyte monitoring in the Curonian Lagoon. Macrophytes react to the changes in the environment and can indicate long-term changes in the aquatic system. The research of aquatic plants consists of aerial photographing (in 1997) that gives an overview of the lagoon's vegetation, field investigations and studies of permanent vegetation transects. The field investigations were carried out at 12 transects in the north part of the Lagoon every year (during vegetation period), since 2000 it has been carried in every three year. Studies are performed according to J. Keskital, K. Salonen (1993), V.M. Katanskaja (1984) methods. The purpose of the research is to study overgrowth with macrophytes of the Northern Curonian Lagoon. The objectives: to study changes of species composition, abundance, biomass in littoral zone. Inventory of species of the Lagoon is carried out in every six years. |
