Description | |
Summary | The purpose of the research is to analyse salinity regime and its peculiarities in different parts of the Baltic Sea. Water salinity is an important hydrological characteristic, which have an impact to physical-chemical as well to biological processes going in the Baltic Sea. In accordance with the national and international Baltic Sea monitoring programme (HELCOM) monitoring cruises have been fulfilled with the Lithuanian research vessels 'OKEANOGRAFAS', 'VEJAS' and 'VETRA'. Since 1981 salinity investigations were carried out in a wide net of stations in national (Lithuanian territorial waters and economic zone) and international (Baltic Proper) waters. Later the net of stations became narrower and since 2000 research in the Baltic Sea is carried out only in the Lithuanian waters. Salinity investigations are carried out during every season in standard sea water horizons. The data are fully quality controlled. Systematic certification of laboratories, participation in international intercalibrations, internal control, introduced managing system for research' quality determine quality of data. All data is stored in archive (in table forms on paper) and is saved on hard disk. |
