Country | Portugal |
Time period | From 1990 onwards |
Ongoing | Yes |
Geographical area | Atlantic coast (Portugal, Spain, Africa and Brazil) and Portuguese coastal estuaries |
Observations | |
Parameters | Bacteria in biota; Fauna abundance per unit area of the bed; Fish morphology, age and physiology; Fish abundance in water bodies; Fish taxonomy-related abundance per unit area of the bed; Fish taxonomy-related counts; Fish behaviour; Zoobenthos taxonomic abundance; Zoobenthos taxonomy-related counts; Fish disease and parasites |
Instruments | Pelagic trawl nets; benthos samplers |
Description | |
Summary | The morphological, ultrastructural, citochemical and biochemical aspects of gametogenesis in marine animals are studied. The functional aspects, ultrastructural and citochemistry of fertilization is also carried out. Protoparasity of the marine fauna (mainly from Spain and Brazil) are studied in several ways: ultrastructure, citochemistry, biochemistry, life cycle and interaction with the hosts. Parasites (infesting the Mediterranean fauna) and their cycles are also studied. |
