Water samples were collected monthly in two saltponds. The characterization of two salines located in different sites during annual cycles was performed. This work included the study of physical-chemical parameters of the water and sediment, and the study of planktonic and benthonic communities with special regard to the halophilic bacteria and to Artemia in order to understand their influence over salt production. The biology of Artemia comprised nutritional studies, population dynamics and biochemical studies. Intensive culture essays and the production of cycles under controlled laboratory conditions were also carried out.
