Description 
Summary

The observations are frequently made at lighthouses. 22 stations on Portugal mainland, 5 stations on Madeira Island and 9 stations on Azores Islands. Some training of lighthouse keepers has been undertaken by the Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia e Geofisica. Sea state is visually observed. Winds are estimated on the Beaufort scale. The elements are quality controlled. The quality control computer programme includes sequential checks. The times of observations are: 00, 09, 12 and 17 UT.
