Summary

The sea-urchin (Sphaerechinus granularis) is a common species, in the littoral of the Azores. Between the 10 to 40 m depth, 50 specimens are sampled monthly by diving. The colour, diameter, wet weight, sex and gonad weight are recorded. The mean monthly wet weight ranged from 150 to 180 g. The highest gonad index was obtained in the autumn and winter. The mean gonad weight in these months ranged from 10 to 17 g.
