Description
Summary

The National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" is the national operator of the integrated physical, chemical and biological monitoring system of the marine environment and is responsible for sampling, quality controlling, analysing, interpreting and reporting the data. One of the aims of the Monitoring Programme is to study the spatial and temporal distribution of the trace metals contaminants (Cu, Cd, Pb, Mn, Zn, Ni, Cr) in the abiotic and biotic components of the coastal marine ecosystem, under different sources of pollution (Danube river in the northern area, land based sources in the southern one like waste water discharges, etc.). Seawater samples (surface level) are collected. The data are stored, together with benchmark information, as time series at each site. The data are fully quality controlled. The trace metals data are compared with historical data sets, with the other physical, chemical and biological parameters that were monitored and with data from neighbouring sites in the Black Sea region.
