The overall objectives of the MEDAR/MEDATLAS II project are to collect, storage and exchange oceanographical data product of temperature, salinity and bio-chemical data in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, through a wide co-operation of the Mediterranean countries. Under the project it was necessary to do the following: - to update the archived hydrographic data (depth, temperature and salinity) from all, European and extra- European, sources; - to quality control the data in the perspective of scientific use, according to the IOC and MAST recommendations taking advantage of the regional expertise of the Mediterranean data centres; - to merge the compiled data sets, operate a final control and compute an updated statistical climatology with a resolution adapted to the Mediterranean circulation scales; - to provide an easy access to the final merged data sets for users. The objectives of RIHMI-WDC at the MEDAR/MEDATLAS II project were: - Rescue and inventory of hydrological/biochemical data; - Creation of metadata on data handing and processing methodologies; - Creation of integrated inventory for the Mediterranean and Black Sea; - QC of national data for the Mediterranean and Black Sea; - Collection, QC, reformatting of oceanographic data for the Black Sea by RIHMI-WDC as a Regional Data Centre; The primary objective of the Russian NODC is to collect information of national and international expeditions in the Mediterranean.
