Data holding centre | University of Edinburgh, Department of Geology and Geophysics |
Country | United Kingdom ![]() |
Time period | From March 1997 to February 1999 |
Ongoing | No |
Geographical area | Southern Adriatic Sea, Northern Ionian Sea, Otranto Strait |
Observations | |
Parameters | Sedimentation flux of metallic and metalloid elements and isotopes in water bodies; Metal fluxes between the bed and the water column; Radioactivity in water bodies; Geological sample radioactivity |
Instruments | Discrete water samplers; sediment traps; elemental analysers; atomic absorption spectrometers |
Description | |
Summary | The aim was to completely dissolve sediment trap samples supplied on membrane filters and form a sample solution of dilute nitric acid which may then be analysed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The delta-13 C signature of organic matter in the sediment traps has been used to identify sources of organic matter and associate these with other constituents. |
