Description
Summary

For the last few years, a Spanish fleet comprising approximately 35 fishing/freezing vessels has been operating in the eastern tropical Atlantic. Each vessel has a transport capacity of between 400 and 1,500 tons of fish. The landed capture exceeds 100,000 tons. The capture and effort data are obtained from the fishing logs, established in 1979, and which reflect the daily activity of the vessels: area covered, situation of fisheries (both positive and negative), captures per species (first estimate), search time, time spent in the fishing ground, method of collection, type of fishing ground, type of association, surface temperature, etc. In-port sampling of known sets provides information on the size structure of the capture and allows for the correction of the specific composition. This information, together with that of other fleets operating in the area, allows for the evaluation of the resource in accordance with ICCAT.
