| Query EDMED |
General | |
Data holding centre | Scott Polar Research Institute |
Country | United Kingdom |
Time period | January 1981; from July to August 1986; from June to November 1986; from October to November 1989; from September to October 1994 |
Ongoing | No |
Geographical area | Icebergs in the South Atlantic (1981); Sea ice in North West Weddell Sea (1986); Fast ice in McMurdo Sound (1986); Sea ice in the Weddell Sea (1989); Sea ice in the Amundsen and Ross Seas (1994) |
Observations | |
Parameters | Ice motion and related parameters; Wave height and period statistics |
Instruments | Accelerometers; snow and ice samplers; wave recorders |
Description | |
Summary | Arrays of accelerometers, tiltmeters and strainmeters were deployed on icebergs, fast ice and sea ice to determine the wave field propagating through the ice. Sometimes simultaneous measurements of the ocean wave spectra were made to assess the wave attenuation due to the ice. |
