Description
Summary

Surface data were collected from FS 'Polarstern' and MSV 'Fennica' for characterisation of ice types, and also as surface validation data for SAR and SSM/I satellite imagery. Data consist of sea ice observations for the period, surface sampling of ice and snow (winter only), sea ice salinities, surface meteorological data, and corresponding imagery. Additional data for Fennica include digitised ice edge mapping from radar, floe meltpool depths, and secondary GPS dataset. Satellite data were supplied to 'Fennica' in near real time by the Nansen Environmental Remote Sensing Centre, Bergen, Norway.
