Description
Summary

This data set consists of images from three flights on board RAF Hercules from Greenland to the North Pole during the summers of 1979 and 1980. Both the June flights consist of long roll 70mm film negatives and a long roll positive copy of the negatives. Additional slides are also included. Positional information is obtained from Dictaphone tapes, navigational charts and reports of the flights. The August flight consists of black and white prints only. Currently the Dictaphone tapes, black and white prints, slides and positive copy of the long roll negatives are available electronically. The images show continuous swaths of the sea ice from open water to continuous pack ice, giving a comprehensive record of ice floe size distribution in the area.
