Description
Summary

Data were collected within the framework of multidisciplinary studies aimed at investigating the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the Adriatic/Ionian basin. To determine the vertical fluxes, sediment traps coupled with current meters were used. The sampling period was 15 days. The collecting bottles were filled with a preservative formaline solution. Aliquots of samples were filtered on fiber glass filters to determine the total mass (dry weight), total and organic carbon and total nitrogen. Particle size analyses were carried out by means of a Model TA II Coulter Counter adopting the two-tubes technique (50 and 280 nm) to cover a wider range. The observed size ranged from 1 to 100 nm.
