Description
Summary

During the austral summer 1988-89, the Osservatorio Geofisico Sperimentale (OGS) conducted the second geophysical survey in Antarctica collecting magnetic, gravimetric, seismic reflection and refraction data in the South Pacific Ocean and in the Ross Sea areas. The second part of the survey has been dedicated to the Ross Sea, where the dataset has been complemented with seismic refraction profiles by means of sonobuoys, in cooperation with the United States Geological Survey (USGS). During this survey a total amount of 4202 km of seismic reflection profiles, and 17 refraction datasets have been acquired. The research has been sponsored by the National Research Program in Antarctica (PNRA), headed by the Italian ENEA. The data have been collected with the following sampling parameters: Coverage = 3000 % Sample Rate = 4 ms Shot Interval = 50 m Streamer Length = 3000 m Streamer Depth = 12 m Group Interval = 25 m Number of Groups = 120 Record Length = 14 sec Air-Guns: - Total Volume = 45.16 l - Pressure = 140 bar - Depth = 6 m
