Description
Summary

In the period 1972-1974 the Istituto Idrografico della Marina Militare (IIM), collaborating with the Istituto di Fisica dell'Atmosfera (IFA), carried out regular hydrological measurements, reaching the depth of 2000 meters, in several assigned stations in the Ligurian Sea. The measurements were performed with the aim of studying the seasonal and spatial variations of temperature and salinity and to best understanding the current circulation by means of dynamic topographies at several depths, obtained applying the dynamic method. The hydrographic measurements were obtained at 36 stations, regularly repeated during 6 cruises. Temperature and salinity values were measured by means of GEODYNE-CTD and PLESSEY-STD probes, position was determined by the LORAN C, and bottom depth by an EDO 333 echosounder. Dynamic depth calculations were obtained by the dynamic method.
