General | |
Data holding centre | SACLANT Undersea Research Centre |
Country | Italy ![]() |
Time period | From August to November 1984 |
Ongoing | No |
Geographical area | A network of about 250 stations covering the southern Tyrrhenian Sea between Sicily and Sardinia |
Observations | |
Parameters | Salinity of the water column; Horizontal velocity of the water column (currents); Temperature of the water column |
Instruments | Current meters |
Description | |
Summary | The primary purpose was to investigate the late summer water-mass variability and the interior flow structure on the Sardinia-Sicily opening. Instruments are calibrated and intercalibrated on a regular basis in the SACLANTCEN. Derivation of salinity and density values from temperature and conductivity is carried out according to UNESCO standard algorithms. Standard meteorological observations complete the station records. |
