Description
Summary

Sediment samples were taken at 16 points in the Gulf of La Spezia using a gravity corer. Microbial activity was measured in the surface layer (0-1 cm) of each sample using the resazurin reduction method. The organic carbon content (per cent) and the total nitrogen (per cent) were also determined. The sampling points lack precise geographical coordinates as the area considered was quite small and sufficient landmarks were present for reasonably good positioning. However, the data set is provided with a map of the area showing the points sampled.
