In 1981, the physical properties of the marine environment surrounding the Gulf of Gaeta (Central Tyrrhenian Sea) were studied by the ENEA-CREA in collaboration with the SO-ISDGM. CTD, current and meteorological measurements were carried out in the area during different periods. All the data were treated in the data center of the CREA (Digital 11/750). CTD casts were carried out during a three day period which extended from 30 May to 1 June 1981. 134 stations, dispersed over a regular grid extending from the coast up to the 1000 meters isobath, were covered. The instrument used was a calibrated Neil Brown profiler linked to the HP 2100 minicomputer on board ship. Only the data obtained from the descending probe were considered. The salinity, density, specific volume, buoyancy frequency, sound velocity and potential temperature were determined from the CTD profiles. The data set consists of the depth time series of the measured and the calculated parameters at 1 metre intervals. The geographical coordinates are given in latitude and longitude while the time is in GMT.
