Description
Summary

The distribution of microzooplankton populations was studied during the second Italian cruise in the Strait of Magellan (March-April 1991). Microzooplankton samples were collected at 27 stations at surface, intermediate and bottom depths with a Niskin bottle, filtered with a 10 micrometre mesh and preserved at 4 per cent buffered formaldehyde. 58 taxa of Tintinnida (45 species and 13 genera), 5 of Oligotrichida (3 species and 2 genera) and 3 of Foraminiferida (2 species and 1 genera) were determined. The microzooplankton populations in the surveyed area were characterized by absolute dominance of tintinnids while non-tintinnid Ciliate and Micrometazoa larves were not abundant.
