Description
Summary

The oceanographic buoy is fitted with a CTD profiler and a meteorological station. All instruments are managed by controller mounted on the buoy. The collected data are sent in real-time via GSM to OGS for data processing. All instruments are powered by solar panels. Meteo data are measured at 3m height from the sea, while the CTD probe is casted every three hours by means of an electrical winch. Long-term routine measurements of the basic meteo-oceanographic variables are needed, to observe and study the main marine processes of the coastal area, in their wide spectrum of space and time scales, as a complement to the traditional approach. In the frame of MAMBO project, the real-time meteo-marine system as been implemented to protect human activities, the coast and the marine environment against river floods, storm surges, oil spills, pollution, anoxyc conditions, red-tides and mucillage.
