Description
Summary

Four multidisciplinary seasonal hydrological surveys with CTD casts and water sampling were conducted every three months (May, August, November 1995, and February 1996) in the framework of PRISMA sub-project 'Longitudinal fluxes' in the Northern Adriatic, in the Central Adriatic and in the Southern Adriatic respectively. The main objective was the study of the seasonal time-scale variability of the water and the biogeochemical fluxes, through four significant transversal sections of the Adriatic Sea. Water sampling for the determination of nutrients and dissolved/particulate elements were collected, contemporary with marine currents measurements both by mooring arrays of currentmeters and ship-mounted ADCP current profiles. The original CTD data were processed, controlled and analysed by the originators who hold the principal quality control responsibility. The high resolution vertical profiles of each station were averaged over 1 dbar pressure interval. The salinity has been computed according to the 1978 Practical Salinity Scale. The averaged data are stored per cruise and ship (institution). The entire data set comprises 956 vertical profiles and includes data supplied by three institutions: - Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale - OGS, Trieste, Italy (Gargano and Otranto transects); - CNR, Istituto di Scienze Marine (Sezione di Ancona), Italy (Giulianova transects); - CNR, Istituto di Scienze Marine (Sezione di Venezia), Italy (Rimini transects). The Southern Adriatic data set comprises 548 vertical prifiles related to four seasonal cruises by OGS, Trieste.
