Description
Summary

CTD data were collected within the framework of multidisciplinary studies aimed at investigating the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the Adriatic/Ionian basin, paying particular attention to the density driven dynamics of the Otranto Strait. CTD data were visually inspected to eliminate spikes and averaged over 1dbar pressure intervals. Temperature and salinity were corrected for CTD calibration drift and compared with in situ reversing thermometer readings and water sample analysis, according to standard procedures (UNESCO, 1983 and 1988). Quality control has been implemented before the final data-archiving following the MATER Quality Control protocol (SISMER, 1997). The CTD stations were occupied during 9 cruises: March, August, December 1997, January, March, August 1998, February, February/March, March 1999. The data set consists of 629 vertical profiles.
