The marine current data were collected in the framework of the Magellan Project during the first cruise carried out in the austral spring of 1989. The main goal was to study the poorly known physical, biochemical, and sedimentological features of the Strait. The data were collected by two meters (40 and 80 m) on the mooring deployed near the Atlantic entrance and by one meter (189 m) on the mooring deployed in the Canal Ancho. The data obtained from the vessel anchored are at 10 and 20 m depth. The time series were recorded at sampling interval of 5 minutes. The data are fully quality controlled for gaps, spikes and spurious data. The raw data are averaged over 1 hour time intervals and analyzed to produce spectral analysis, tidal components and residuals. The datasets are stored as a raw time series for each current meter (1 data cycle of temperature, speed and direction every 5 minutes) covering approximately a spanning time of 13 days, for a total amount of 40 days.
