Description
Summary

The data were collected in the framework of an environmental study for the forecasting of storm surges ('acqua alta') in the Lagoon of Venice. The two buoys worked from September 1978 to September 1980 and April 1981 respectively. The tidal stations worked at Trieste, Venice, Rimini, Ancona, Vieste and Otranto during the winter 1980/1981 so that their data set amounts to 19 months of records. At the same time, to develop the forecasting model, a long series of systematic meteorological observations from the Italian Meteorological Service was obtained, for the following stations and periods: Bari, Pescara, Leuca, Rimini (29 years), Venice (19 years), Dubrovnik, Pula, Split, Zadar (2 years).
