Adriatic sea bed (especially northern and central part) up to Italy-Yugoslavia mid-line

The marine sediment characteristics of Adriatic Sea bed were performed in several steps: 1) S.B.P. surveys, especially in Northern Adriatic Sea and Central Adriatic Sea south of Mesoadriatic depression; 2) several campaigns with grab and box-corer in order to determinate the extension and properties of surface sedimentary cover (2500-3000 observed points); 3) several campaigns with gravity corer (especially in Northern Adriatic Sea zone) and occasionally geotechnical off-shore drilling for the definition of geolithological and geotechnical properties of Holocene and late Pleistocene series; 4) several geotechnical drillings on or near the actual coast-line in order to extrapolate emerged subsoil situation to the inner shelf one. As main results may be mentioned: 1) a good reconstruction of Flandrian transgression surface in North Adriatic Sea and of the top of Pleistocene continental Series. 2) The definition of residual sandy bodies offshore. 3) Detailed sedimentological charts of sea-floor lithologies, based on Nota textural classification.
