Description
Summary

The 3 annual surveys were started in 1975 to investigate the seasonal distribution of fish species on different substrata in different depth bands (0-6, 6-10, 10-20 fathoms) and at different distances from the coast (0-3, 3-6, 6-12 miles). Each survey consisted of 24 (12 pairs) stations. The March survey was discontinued in 1987, October in 1990 and June in 1991; two changes of vessel have taken place (in 1978 and 1990). In recent years the surveys have been used to provide fishing-independent data on pre-recruit cod, whiting, plaice and sole off the North Wales coast in order to allow an early prediction of recruitments to the Irish Sea fisheries by the assessment Working Group. Data are collected on other fish species.
