Description
Summary

The data set comprises records of fish length and catch density (numbers per 1000 square m) by fishing station. All fish taken in the trawl are identified to species, measured and counted. For most stations a sample of the sediment is taken and graded on a scale of 0-10, and the surface water salinity is recorded. Stations are distributed in depth bands of 0-2, 2-6, 6- 12 and 12-20m, in the coastal waters of the UK, and fished during September of most years. In 1970, 1973 and 1979, between 111 and 381 stations were fished on the east coast, in 1971, and 1974, 115 and 456 stations respectively were fished on the south coast, in 1972 and 1975, 442 and 510 stations respectively were fished on the west coast. Between 1981 and 1994 fishing effort (c.370 stations per year) has been concentrated on the east and south coast of England.
