Description
Summary

A four year diving survey was carried out to study the occurrence and distribution of shallow water sponges, using direct observation techniques, around the Maltese Islands. In all, 33 species of Porifera were identified, most of which are new records for the Maltese Islands. The project also involved the study of the bathymetric distribution and abundance of the species. A species list of the sponges recorded was compiled.
