Description
Summary

The researches are carried out in frames of Georgian National Scientific Foundation grant “GNSF/ST07/5-206 Study of geochemistry of the Georgian sector of the Black Sea and pollutants accumulation dynamics”. Objective of the project is the study of fundamental sedimentological, geochemical and ecological issues; study of environmental conditions in the catchments areas of the rivers of the Black Sea basin with the view of an impact imposed on the marine environment; assessment of the nature, sources and risks of the man-caused impact on the sea environment. By work plan of the project, the investigations of marine sediments are realized. Sediments are sampled for 3 times: in 2008, September, and 2009, June and September. Metal (Fe, Mn, Cu, Cr, Ni, Zn, Hg, As) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) content in 60 samples of marine bottom sediments are study. Maps of distribution of studded metals and TPH in marine sediments are created using the GIS-programs. For determination of metals atomic absorption and spectrophotometric methods are used.
