Description | |
Summary | Physical measurements obtained from a single point, full water column mooring. Dataset includes acoustic/current measurements, together with temperature, salinity and fluorescence. Associated geochemical samples are collected from sediment traps incorporated into the mooring. Data are currently held in a raw format with limited quality control having taken place. The mooring is situated at Kongsfjord on the north west tip of Svalbard, in water depths of approximately 250 metres. The mooring has been established since 2002, funded through various initiatives and serviced by both UK and Norwegian cruises. Mooring activity at Kongsfjord was initiated in order to generate a time series of data able to be integrated with measurements collected at other moored observatories on the Arctic shelves. This will ultimately lead to a pan-Arctic view of seasonal response and long-term change. Kongsfjord mooring activity is led by Finlo Cottier at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS). Data from the mooring are currently only available via this source. |
