Data were collected to provide detailed observations on seasonal, annual and spatial variation of lobster catch rates, length composition and landings and to develop a recruitment index for the Bridlington lobster fishery. Data collected include fleet by fleet and, at times, pot by pot observations of the total catch of lobsters for a selected boat working inshore, sampled for two or three weeks a season from 1986-1987 and building up to one or two weeks a month from April to September from 1988 to 1997. These data also provide a baseline of CPUE for the natural lobster fishery against which the CPUE of microtagged, hatchery-reared lobsters can be compared as part of the study on lobster stock enhancement. In addition, periodic samples are taken at sea with an offshore skipper and on-shore monitoring of landings of all lobster boats is carried out.
