Description
Summary

This work is being carried out to provide information on: the effectiveness of parlour pots; pot selectivity in Norfolk creels and parlour pots; pots fitted with escape gaps; lobsters as a bycatch of trawlers; and the effect of potash waste from the Boulby outfall pipe on catch rates. The following information is available: 1. Parlour pots (1978): catch rates and length distributions of lobsters and crabs from East coast creels and Yorkshire parlour pots. 2. Pot selectivity (1984 to 1986): catch rates and length distributions of lobsters and crabs off Norfolk and Yorkshire from Norfolk creels and Yorkshire parlour pots. 3. Escape gaps (1977 to 1994): catch rates and length distributions of lobsters and crabs in laboratory tanks and off Norfolk from creels fitted with escape gaps of a range of shapes and sizes, off Yorkshire from parlour pots fitted with escape gaps of a range of sizes and off Sussex from inkwell pots fitted with an escape gap. 4. Bycatch (1987 to 1990): commercial fishing trip from Whitby fishing the North Yorkshire coast and monthly charter trips during the winter fishing the area of the Bridlington inshore lobster fishery.
