| Summary | Before the inventory an estimate is made of the locations of the mussel beds, using information from previous surveys and inspection from an aircraft. The area of the mussel beds is measured with GPS equipment according to a fixed protocol. Size of the mussels and density of the mussel bed are noted. The information of mussel beds contours is transferred from GPS equipment to the navigation program MaxSea and from MaxSea to the GIS system ArcMap. Xtools in ArcMap is used to calculate the area of every individual mussel bed. |
