Summary

This dataset consists of marine habitats in Kilkieran Bay according to the EUNIS habitat classification system. The EUNIS habitat classification is a comprehensive pan-European system to facilitate the harmonised description and collection of data across Europe through the use of criteria for habitat identification. It is hierarchical and covers all types of habitat types from natural to artificial, from terrestrial to freshwater and marine. Kilkieran Bay is located in the west of Ireland to the north of Galway Bay. Data for Kilkieran Bay marine habitats collected in 2001. Data created from the interpretation of single-beam echosounder backscatter. Data collected to support the designation of Special Areas of Conservation around the coast of Ireland. Data were acquired for the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). Data completed for Kilkieran bay area.
