Description
Summary

This dataset consists of individual CTD profiles through the water column (conductivity, temperature, oxygen and other derived physical and chemical parameters). The data are from various locations ranging from the Tunisian coastline to the East and Western Mediterranean basin and Tunisia-Sicily Channel. Data have been collected since May 1995 using a Sea-Bird 911plus CTD package deployed during research cruises from R/V SALAMMBO and R/V HANNIBAL. The CTD sensors used to collect the data are calibrated annually. Data have been collected under the framework of numerous national and international research projects: Observation et Modelisation de la circulation dans la zone Nord-Tunisie/Sardaigne/Sicile (SALTO), EGITTO, Phytoplankton and Oceanographic Ecosystem Monitoring and Management (POEMM), Stock assessment of resources and benthic ecosystems (ESREB), Elaboration of a residual schema and coastal hydrodynamics study (ESSAHEL), Southern European Seas (SESAME) and Coastal environmental studies and stock assessment of Sardines, Anchovies and Tuna (ESSATEL). The data have been collected by the oceanography observatory team of the Laboratoire du Milieu Marin (LMM), within the Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (INSTM) in Tunisia. INSTM is the holder of the CTD data - Professor Chérif SAMMARI and Dr. Sana Ben Ismail are the main people responsible for the dataset. Various access restrictions apply to different subsets of this dataset.
