General
Data set name

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments from around Scotland.

Data holding centreFisheries Research Services, Aberdeen Marine Laboratory
CountryUnited Kingdom  United Kingdom
Time period1997-2000
OngoingNo
Geographical area

Shetland, Orkney, West Coast of Scotland

Observations
Parameters

Concentration of aliphatic hydrocarbons in sediment samples; Concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediment samples

Instruments

Sediment grabs; gas chromatograph mass spectrometers

Description
Summary

Sediments were collected from Shetland, Orkney and west coast sea lochs and analysed for PAHs by GC-MS. n-Alkane profiles and biomarker analysis were used to try and identify the source of these compounds.
